Welcome to the Holy Family Technology College Sixth Form
Dear Students/Parents/Carers,
On behalf of Mr Breen, the Head teacher, I am delighted to welcome you to the Sixth Form at the Holy Family Technology College.

The Holy Family Technology College is a voluntary aided Roman Catholic, mixed comprehensive school for boys and girls aged 11 – 19 years. It is based on two sites situated close to each other in Shernhall Street,Walthamstow and is maintained by the London Borough of Waltham Forest.
Students in Years 7 and 8 and the Sixth Form (Years 12 and 13) are based on the Walthamstow House site whilst students in Years 9 – 11 are based on the Wiseman House site. However, in September 2010, the College will be accommodated in a new building on one site as a result of the Building Schools for the Future programme – a development that is warmly welcomed by all concerned with the College.

The College was granted Specialist School status in Technology in September 2000 and this has enabled us not only to develop and extend our provision and resources in Technology, ICT, Mathematics and Science, but has also helped ensure that all other curriculum areas have benefited too.

Our new Performing Arts block, situated on the Wiseman House site, was opened in January 2005 and has greatly enhanced our facilities for Music, Drama and Media Studies.

The College is privileged to have a well-qualified, talented and hardworking staff who enjoy teaching in a Catholic Comprehensive Technology College which sets itself high expectations in all aspects of its role. Significant progress has been made during the last four years and results at Key
Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 and in the Sixth Form “match” or exceed National levels.

The Sixth Form curriculum at Holy Family Technology College comprises a choice of over 20 ’A’ Level subjects (AS and A2) for those students fulfilling the entry requirements to study at this level. In certain subjects, the BTEC National Course or GCE/Applied Course (’A’ level equivalent) is offered. All courses lead to University entrance. AS/A2 Critical Thinking/General Studies, a leisure activity, community service and “specialist days” complement and enhance our ’A’ level offer.

Our one year course offer is more limited and consists of either GCSE Applied or BTEC First Courses in specific subjects. Re-sit courses in Mathematics and English are also available. Students benefit from participation in our complementary programme. Success on a one year course can lead to further study at ’A’ Level/BTEC National or GCE Applied, depending on the subject.

Finally, but perhaps most importantly,Holy Family Technology College exists to serve the needs of the Roman Catholic Community by educating baptised Roman Catholic children in the way their parents would wish them to be. However, the Governors are willing to admit other children where there is evidence of a strong desire for a Catholic education. We welcome applications from Year 11 students already studying at Holy Family and from Year 11 students currently attending other schools or colleges. We look forward to meeting you at our Sixth Form Information Evening in January.

With best wishes,
C. Hodges
