Course name: Mathematics AS level and A2 Level

EDEXCEL GCE

Core units (C1, C2, C3  & C4)

Mechanics units (M1, M2, M3, M4 & M5)

Statistics units (S1, S2, S3 & S4)

Decision Mathematics Units (D1 & D2)

Further Pure Maths FP1 and FP2

Course Outline

Generally, AS Level covers the Core units (C1 and C2) and the options of S1 or M1.

A2 Core units are C3, C4 & and optional unit, either S1 or M1 depending on what was chosen at AS level.

Further Mathematics

Students successfully completing AS Mathematics have the option of taking up AS Further Mathematics (Code: 8372) in Year 13.

This would mean three extra units chosen from FP1 (6667), FP2 (6668), M2 (6678), and D1 (6689) on top of the A2 Core units C3, C4 & and optional unit, either S1 or M1 depending on what was chosen at AS level.

Students are aware the top colleges would prefer, and sometime require that they have at least AS Further Mathematics to enter into their Maths, Physics and Engineering courses.

Assessment

Exams are taken either in November, January or June each year.

There are no course work involved in any of the Units.

Homework

Homework is set at the discretion of the course Tutor which may vary from as much as one at the end of each lesson to one the end of every topic and sometimes more.

Equipment required

A graphical or scientific calculator, a complete pencil case and writing Material.
