Welcome to the PE Department

Our Aims:

  • To become skilful performers in a full range of physical education contexts.
  • To encourage an understanding of health and fitness leading to educated choices about an active lifestyle.
  • To become reflective performers so that they might refine their own and others’ performance.
  • To offer leadership opportunities to our young people so that they may become the sports leaders of the future.
  • To educate through the medium of sport, through competition and co-operation
  • To offer a wide range of curricular and extra-curricular activities which allows our students to realise and achieve their full potential.

The department:

Six members of staff operate in the Physical Education Department.

The department uses coaches from outside of school to assist in some activities at Key Stage 4 and in some extra-curricular clubs.

The PE department is extremely committed towards providing a safe, relevant, enjoyable and all inclusive curriculum. It seeks to promote a culture of achievement, leadership, teamwork, participation and sportsmanship.

Extra-curricular programme

We offer an extensive extra-curricular programme. We have teams in netball for girls, football for boys and girls, athletics, indoor athletics, basketball, cross-country, rounders and cricket.

We have teams entered into local, regional and national competitions and have a history of success across a wide range of sports.
There are a large number of extra-curricular clubs that run throughout the year; clubs are run before school, lunchtime and afterschool.

In addition the department have organised numerous outdoor adventurous activities including skiing.

Raising Standards within the PE Department

In a continuing effort to raise standards within the Physical Education department, we have devised a new set of guidelines for the school PE kit.
