Course Outline

The course is split into two units, which is taught over two years. Unit 1: Families, Education, and Research Methods. Unit 2: Crime and Deviance, Mass Media, Social Inequality

Assessment

The course is assessed by 100% by examination. There is no coursework or controlled assessment. Unit 1 and Unit 2 are each worth 50% of the overall GCSE. Together they make 100%. Unit 1 will be sat in January of year 11 and Unit 2 in the summer of year 11.

Homework

Homework will be set regularly and will cover a range tasks, such as research, essay writing, comprehension questions, presentations and study analysis.

Equipment required

No specialist equipment is needed. The students will be provided with the textbook Sociology GCSE for AQA (Wilson and Kidd).

Useful publications/websites

It is useful to stay up to date with current news events as well as watching social and political documentaries.

Supporting your child’s progress

Parents can support their child’s progress by discussing current affairs and social issues with their child.
