Learning Support
‘Gifted’ and Talented Students A
number of pupils in every year at Holy Family are identified as ‘more
able and talented’. All staff are made
aware of these students and their progress is carefully monitored.
Extension opportunities are provided through additional subject work and enhancement days. More able students are also encouraged to take part in relevant workshops and certain competitions. ‘Early-entry’ to public examinations is being piloted for some of these students.
Special Educational Needs
Everybody has strengths as well as weaknesses. We value all our students and
our aim is to make sure that they all get maximum benefit from their time
with us. A team of teachers work in a number of ways under the leadership
of a senior member of staff. Sometimes they become a second teacher in a class
to give extra advice and help when students need it.
At other times they provide skills classes for students who are worried that they need to work on developing their learning skills in order to make full use of their lessons. They provide support and advice for individual students to help guide them through their difficulties and they help us all make sure that our courses and teaching methods help all students to be successful in their studies and gain qualifications at the end of their courses.
We have two full time Learning Mentors with specific responsibility for identifying and overcoming barriers to learning and for raising the achievement of all students.
