Partnership with Parents
Home-School Agreement
From September 1999, all schools are obliged to have a formal ‘Home-School
Agreement’. This sets out the requirements, responsibilities, and expectations
of the school, the parents and the students themselves in providing for your
child’s education.
The resulting document for the Holy Family Technology College reflects the
ethos of the school. Each party is asked to sign their agreement to this
document, which is then retained by the school.
Meeting with parents
We arrange regular, structured ways for parents/guardians to visit the College.
These are:
• Consultation Evenings, to discuss individual student’s progress;
• Open Evenings, to see examples of what students learn;
• Performances of plays, music etc.;
• Information Evenings, to hear about important issues;
• Social Events and fund-raising.
Individual Personal Contact
We also welcome visits from parents and ask you not to hesitate to contact
us to discuss your child’s progress; to share any problem your child
may be facing; to suggest ways in which we could help your child gain maximum
benefit from being a member of our college community, or to find out more
about how your child spends her/his time in college.

Parental Concerns
If parents/guardians have concerns about their child’s progress or behaviour,
it is essential to discuss the matter with the School. Most issues and concerns
can usually be solved before they become a problem by regular communication
between home and school.
However, like all schools, the College is obliged to have a formal ‘Complaints Procedure’, details of which can be sought from the College Office.
College Newsletter
The College Newsletter, “Family Matters”, is sent out weekly.
It contains important dates, accounts of our activities, and other items of
interest.
The Friends
This Association is open to anyone who is interested in the success and development
of the College – parents of present and past students, past and present
staff, Governors and others are all welcome.
The ‘Friends Association’ is active in the field of fund raising, and has contributed a substantial sum to support the building of our new Performing Arts block.
Charging Policy
All books, stationery and materials required by students in following their
curriculum are provided free of charge. However, sometimes the students wish
to ‘own’ and take home what they make during their studies at
the College, for example, a cooked dish they have prepared in a Food Technology
lesson, or a plastic key-ring they have produced in their Design Technology
lesson. In this case, we ask you to give an amount to cover the cost of materials
used.
Visits and outings which are essential to the courses being followed by students take place during school-time, and are free of charge.
Visits which are not essential generally take place out of school hours, and are voluntary. Therefore, students are asked to pay the full cost of their participation in these.
