Official Opening of the Corpus Christi Building

The Blessing of the Corpus Christi Building and the Henrietta Delille Learning Resource Centre

We had a wonderful morning on Monday 27th November when we welcomed Bishop Alan Williams to Holy Family to bless our new accommodation on the Walthamstow site. We also had guests from the council, other local and diocesan schools and our contractors Willmott Dixon who did such a great job with the new building. The new building is not to be called ‘the new building’ any longer as it is now the Corpus Christi Building. Some of you may recall that the Catholic Junior High School in Leyton that closed when Holy Family was created in 1987 was called Corpus Christi and so we have restored that continuity with our past.

Within the Corpus Christi Building we have a splendid new Learning Resource Centre which is spacious, light and airy and very well utilised already by our young people. We were delighted to name this part of the building after Henrietta Delille, an American of mixed race background in the 19th century who founded the order of the Holy Family and who had a particular vocation to work with the disadvantaged and educate the poor. This name was proposed to us by a Yr 7 student, Neo Valverde-Sebunya and we were delighted to have Neo, his parents and grandmother with us to at the blessing ceremony.

Bishop Alan spent the morning with us and a number of students were able to meet with him and ask him a range of theological questions, which they found very interesting. Our guests were most impressed both with the quality of the buildings and also with the impression our students made upon them including the members of the Glee Club who sang so well and the sixth formers who welcomed and guided visitors around. They were marvellous and a credit to us.  Bishop Alan was presented with a beautiful framed drawing of the body and blood of Christ by James Alfonso in 8P
